Solemn Times

Don’t you think that some people, perhaps mainly the younger ones.. need to rethink what they refer to as an ‘Inspirational Quote’? Re categorize them to something else.. are they really ‘motivational or ‘inspirational’.. well simply put; no I don’t think so. I’m referring to the huge amount of pins on pinterest, pinned on this topic. I guess it’s just another thing lost to the ‘youth’ of today, on the large scale I do find them to be very ‘sarcastic’ in a way… perhaps why their determination of what is ‘inspirational’ becomes ‘a little dark’.. much like a lot of the music today.

Don’t get me wrong though I love ‘melancholy, whimsical, humorous, playful even some sarcastic, satirical’ undertones and everything in between for ‘quotes’.  I also prefer to segregate them into Inspirational, New Age, Opinionated Chik and Humorous; so I’ll post a snippet of them here for you.

‘Mementos’ is a relatively new board of mine, which is somewhat of an eclectic ‘mood board’…

As I mentioned earlier, so much of the music today is dark and ‘moody’.. ‘A Sign of the TImes’.. so now I’ll have to post the Prince Video of that Title 😉 I really do enjoy Lana Del Rey.. such haunting melodies stay with you. I must admit to not being a ‘Lorde’ fan and never will, just throwing that out there for fun.

Perhaps spend a little time researching music of the 80’s and early 90’s (if you are one of those younger ones) and do a little listening to some brighter more hopeful times..

Be warned; you’ll also see that there were far less ‘woe is me’ and less ‘boy / girl’ relationship type songs.. also less guys with gold chains with women rolling around on cars etc… lol, (though, I’m not even sure with that one!) oh and women actually wore more clothes ‘back then, even pantsuits etc! Not just gym wear / bikinis or whatever you’d call what Beyoncé / Rihanna and the like wear.. I’m not sure there is a description apart from dance / stripper wear lol.. I don’t mind their music too much, but I am relieved my daughter is not ‘growing up’ with them on the television and managed to get to at least 14 or so before it became more ‘that way’ inclined in music video’s! ha!

Ok, so I’m more than just a ‘bit’ of a feminist.. but really, chicks like that are not doing us females any kind of ‘favour’, I certainly am glad I don’t have a young child these days! (of either sex).

Now a personal favourite album: R.E.M, Best of R.E.M, In Time 1988 ~ 2003 (so, cheating a little…)

Here’s a mix of 80’s and 90’s songs, I didn’t put the playlist together myself, but it is an interesting ‘snapshot’ perhaps… Albeit, whoever did do the playlist wasn’t really ‘into’ female artists or bands as there is only about 2 out of over 150 I think (lol)

Another sort of cool playlist here.. once again, seems to be lacking variety in a different way and even though it is meant to be Female Artists and Bands of the 80’s and 90’s Beyoncé is the last video with a 2009 song, pity the playlist maker couldn’t ‘bypass’ an obvious ‘personal irrelevant fave’ ha ha!

My own fault I guess, for not being more industrious and compiling the playlist myself… Thinking of Sheryl Crowe, No Doubt, The Cranberries, Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, Alanis Morrisette, Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi, Divinyls, Tina Turner, Pat Benatar, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Pretenders with Chrissie Hynde, gosh, soooo many! This world needs more women with an attitude (ha, reminds me of a Madonna song… ah, yes… ‘Vogue’..) Now I’m contemplating the idea, because maybe I should make this playlist lol! Wanders off to give it some thought for a future post………….

Here’s another track from Ella Hooper called ‘Low ~ High’ from only a few years back.
